Texting Knowledge for your Organization
- SMS – stands for “Short Message Service” and is commonly known as texting. It’s a way to send text-only messages that can include emojis and hyperlinks.
- SMS Message Segment – a single SMS segment contains up to 160 characters.
- MMS – stands for “Multimedia Messaging Service” and allows users to send a text with an attached file (e.g. – picture, video) as well as emoji and hyperlinks.
- MMS Message Segment – a single MMS segment contains up to 1,600 characters. The maximum file size for attachments is 525 KB (total for all files that can be included in a single message, with a maximum of 10 files).
- Text-to-Communicate – Organizations use text messaging to send supporters a hyperlink to their donation form, updates, reminders, links, images, and important information directly to their mobile phones.
- Text-to-Donate – Supporters initiate a donation by texting a keyword to a short code number. After sending that text, they receive a link to a mobile donation form and complete their gift.
- Text-to-Give – Supporters donate by texting a specific keyword and donation amount to a designated short code. Their donation is added to their phone bill, and organizations receive the funds later.
