Running events is a powerful tactic for nonprofits. And we’re not just talking about any old party! A great event brings your community together, showcases your impact, and gets people excited about your mission.
And the first step to throwing a great nonprofit event is sending a great event invite.
Even the most perfectly planned event with the best venue and an amazing keynote speaker won’t succeed if people don’t show up. All of your hard work can go to waste if your invitation emails don’t get opened and inspire people to attend.
Crafting a Successful Event Invite
To make sure your invitations stand out in a crowded inbox and get people to show up, you need to hit a few key points.
- A clear, compelling subject line: If people don’t open your email, they won’t see your invitation! Make sure to tell them exactly what the email is about and why they should open it.
- Start with a strong opening: Get straight to the point. Answer core questions that people may have: who, what, when, where, and why (this one’s especially important as it should reiterate how this event is crucial to your mission!).
- Give people all the details: No one wants to have to hunt around for information. Help people know exactly what to expect. Tell people more about the event, share the date and time, and any other relevant information that they might need.
- Make the call to action (CTA) impossible to miss. No matter the call to action that you’re asking people to take— “Register Now,” “Buy Tickets,” “Sign Up to Volunteer,” etc.—make sure there is a clear, clickable button (and that the link works correctly!)
If this feels like a lot, it’s because it can be. But not to fear, we’re here to help you nail it!
