In this interview, Sam Nyland (Neon One) interviews David Lee of Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates about how the small shop team at this Michigan-based nonprofit was able to lean into their community as well as execute technology in order to bring together volunteers, interns, pro-bono attorneys, and immigrant advocacy groups to support tens of thousands of Afghanistan refugees. LIA is now on track to complete every asylum seeker’s application well in advance of the usual 1 year deadline to apply, putting them 6-9 months ahead of nearly every other immigration legal services in the country doing similar work.
